WPWT's Marx E. Simpleton: "...America Has Too Many Freedoms"

Groan...I have reluctantly listening today (September 27) to WPWT "Good Morning Tri-Cities" talk show host Marx E. Simpleton (presumably the E does not stand for "Einstein") state that "...America has too many freedoms." Simpleton seems terribly confused about the difference between constitutionally protected dissent and treason (or sedition).

Another repeatedly funny Simpleton Spew over the public waves pertains to his strong disdain with the State of Tennessee issuing driving certificates to illegal immigrants...this is particulary funny if you understand that State Rep. David Davis voted for allowing criminal immigrants to have these Tennessee Driving Certificates!

Hill "Immigration Reform" Ad: Should English Composition Be Component of Citizenship Exam?

While up early today (around 6:00.a.m.), sipping down some hot tea and flipping through some of the large folds of the September 24, 2006 edition of the Johnson City Press, I opened the A section of the Sunday newspaper to a rather large re-election campaign advertisement for Rep. Matthew Hill. The display ad appearing on page 6A that announced Hill's Septenber 26 "IMMIGRATION REFORM - Town Hall Meeting" scheduled to start Tuesday nightat 6:00 p.m. at the Johnson City Public Library.

Aside from being yet another apparent Hill FUD (fear, uncertainity, doubt) campaign news release, I soon noticed to things wrong about Hill's "IMMIGRATION REFORM - Town Hall Meeting" advertisement:

1) the Matthew Hill campaign treasurer is listed as "Kathy Anderson, Treasurer" (instead of "Jennifer Dier, Treasurer");
2) and the footer text reads "MEET STATE LAWMAKERS THAT WILL HELP DECIDE YOUR FUTURE".

I am now wondering if Tennessee State Representative Matthew Hill and other "LAWMAKERS" will be pushing for federal legislationlink to Hill "Immigration Reform" 09/24 ad

Johnson City Press: Conservative, Former Governor Ned McWherter Stumps In 7th For Fred Phillips

McWherter stumps for friend - Former governor in town to make case for Phillips in race against Hill

By Rex Barber
Press Staff Writer

“It’s time to elect Fred Phillips,” was the common slogan at a rally held for the former Tennessee safety commissioner Saturday in Johnson City.

Phillips, who also served as Johnson City’s police chief and sheriff of Washington County before being appointed safety commissioner by Gov. Phil Bredesen in 2004, was stumping with former Tennessee Gov. Ned McWherter at The Oaks Castle, 1416 S. Roan St.

Phillips, a Democrat, is seeking to oust current Republican state Rep. Matthew Hill in his first bid at legislative office as the representative in the Tennessee General Assembly’s 7th District Congressional House seat after 42 years of public service in law enforcement.

Phillips said he believes there is a serious need for Northeast Tennessee to be better represented in Nashville.

“Well, you know, I was kind of pressed into service by my constituents,” Phillips said. “I get the feeling here that they’re not getting a return on their tax dollar in Nashville.”

One of the recurring arguments for Phillips’ election to office by his supporters was his well-established relationships with leaders in Nashville, something they claim is desperately needed.

“I have always been able to cross that party line and receive votes,” Phillips said. “The last time I ran a race for sheriff I ran a contested race and I picked up 74 percent of the vote. I have the contacts down there and I have friendships in Nashville; call it what you want, it’s contacts.”

One such example of using Phillips’ networking skills would be garnering road improvements within the city and county, notably what Phillips said was a need for the portion of Interstate 26 that runs through Johnson City to be expanded to six lanes.

“For some reason [Elmer: Matthew Hill] in the (20)06-07 budget there is no new road dollars out of (the Tennessee Department of Transportation) to do anything on the highway systems in Washington County,” he said. “Now you go in neighboring Greene and Hamblen (counties), they’re doing a complete overhaul of Interstate 81, so I just need to see that it flows on into Washington County. And I think with my direct connection with Commissioner (of Transportation) Gerald Nicely and my friendship with him I can convince him that those dollars need to come here.”

McWherter, who served as Tennessee’s 46th governor from 1987-1995, reaffirmed the notion that connections get things done, saying three commissioners appointed by Bredesen who were present Saturday were responsible for building projects in Tennessee — and Phillips was friends with all of them.

“Let me tell you, I’ve known this man a long time,” McWherter said of Phillips. “He came down to Nashville my last four years. I know his character, I know he’s trustworthy, I know his family ... I hope you’ll adhere to this: It’s time to elect Fred Phillips.”

[...]

McWherter has long been known as a staunchly conservative Democrat, something not usually attributed to a Democratic leader.

I suppose that Rep. Matthew Hill could always get his buddy former Tennessee Governor Don Sundquist to campaign for the Hill 2006 as Hill worked as a campaign volunteer during both of the Sundquist gubernatorial elections...

Rep. Matthew Hill: Ice Cream Socialist

I found the following "Special Event" posted at the www.matthewlistens.com web site:
Special Events
Ice Cream Social 9/22/06
Join Matthew at Sister's Family Restaurant at 109 Mill Street in Jonesborough on Friday Sept. 22, from 5 to 8 PM. Join us for a free ice cream and discuss your concerns about our community.

Really? I believe that this would be a good time to get ahold of the Ice Cream Socialist Hill as ask Hill about RU-486, his legislative vote in Nashville cast against pre-K education spending for Tennessee children (as Rep. Hill once stated on air at WPWT 870 AM that his only opposition to the pre-K program was that the money was only allocated for public schools --- and presumably not for summer art camps) or about his Appalchian Educational Communications Corporation a.k.a. WHCB 91.5 FM and Cameo Theatre applying for (and often receiving) state and fedral grant monies from agencies as the Tennessee Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts

(the IRS Form 1023 Application for Recognition of Exemption Parts III V signed by the Rev. Daddy Dr. Kenneth C. Hill on June 29, 1981 reveal a 1982 proposed budget that listed $50,000 in grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting)

Candidate Fred Phillips Announces Grand Opening of Tennessee 7th House District Campaign Office

A page 3 display advertisement within today's edition (September 14, 2006) announced the grand opening of Tennessee 7th House District Candidate Fred Phillips' campaign headquaters with the following information:
Saturday, September 16
10:00 a.m.
304 N. Boone Street
Johnson City
for more information: 434-0011
light refreshments will be served

It is probably safe to say that the Phillips HQ will be staffed by campaign workers who are actually residents of Washington County (as opposed to a desperate Rep. Matthew Hill trolling the far corners of Southeast Tennessee for homeschooled boys to puff up the ranks of his campaign team)...

Rep. David Davis: Really Sucking Up For
Gregory RU-486ish Campaign Funds

The Sunday, May 14, 2006 morning edition of the Johnson City Press reported within the article brief "Former senator joining Crowe as campaign co-chair" that the 2006 1st Congressional District republican candidate David Davis is appointing "...former State Senator Jim Holcomb as his campaign chairman."

Holcomb is quoted within the article brief as commenting about Davis' legislative experience as that "...David has demonstrated the ability to effectively articulate issues that are of concern to working families in Tennessee."

Persumably, Holcomb is referring to the August 1999 King Pharmaceuticals legislative airlift aboard a corporate jet of Rep. Davis and several other Northeast Tennessee members of the Tennessee General members to a Nashville meeting with the then TennCare Director Brian Lapps, seeking to place the Monarch Pharmaceuticals (a King Pharma subsidary) branded Altace (TM) on the TennCare PDL (preferred drug list). At the time of the King legislative airlift, Holcomb was employed as a King Pharmaceuticals lobbyist.

Altace (TM) was added to the TennCare PDL during September of 1999 and former TennCare Director Lapps resigned later during the same month.

Altace (TM) was targeted for consumer boycott by many anti-abortion groups beginning during the late 1980s, as the cardiac drug was owned by the German parent pharmaceutical drug company Hoechst AE. Another Hoechst-owned French pharmaceutical company in France developed and later manfactured the RU-486 abortion drug.

During the summer of 1994, the National Right To Life Committee lauched a U.S. consumer boycott against Hoechst produced products, specifically listing Altace(TM) as a targeted item. By the middle of 1995, form King Pharmaceuticals President Jefferson "Jeff" Gregory (brother of former CEO John M. Gregory) started his negotations with Hoechst toward acquiring the Altace (TM) line and finally arriving at an agreement with Hoechst that secured Altace (TM) U.S. distribution rights for King.

King Pharmaceuticals, Inc. finally acquired the U.S. distribution rights for Altace (TM) under the Monarch Pharmaceuticals brand from Hoechst Marion Roussell (HMR) of Kansas City, Missouri during late December 1998.

Holcomb first served as the political action committte treasurer for former King Pharmaceuticals, Inc. CEO John M. Gregory's Tennessee Conservative PAC while working as "governmental affairs manager" at the Gregory- owned Leitner Pharmaceuticals during the 2004 Tennessee state elections.

Holcomb was hired by Leitener Pharmaceuticals in February, 2002.

Reps. Matthew Hill & David Davis: Paying Their Respects To Graven Image Of The "Ten Commandments"

Nice picture at the David Davis campaign web site of Tennessee Representatives Matthew Hill and David Davis at the Washington County Courthouse in Jonesborough using a graven image of the Ten Commandments as a very inexpensive backdrop for the advancement of their own shallow political careers...

Hey Hill, will you please get your hands out of your pockets and start showing some respect toward the Ten Commandments...and quit slouching!

Rep. Matthew Hill: Lateral Promotion As "Vice President of Information Communications Corporation"

Perhaps it is necessary to comment on the Biography page of Rep. Matthew Hill's "Matthew Hill: Tennessee State Representative" campaign web site, particularly about Hill working "...as Vice-President of Operations for the Appalachian Radio Group ... of the Information Communications Corporation." As late as 2003, Matthew Hill was listed as a "Key Employee" (as was AECC CFO and State of Franklin PAC Treasurer A.G. "Bud" Branscomb) on the "Return of Organizations Exempt From Income Tax" Form 990 filed with the Internal Revenue Service by the 501(c)(3) tax exempt Appalachian Educational Communication Corporation (EIN 52-1221965).

According to the AECC 2003 Form 990, Matthew Hill's salary at the EO (exempt organization) was then $36,125 and fellow AECC Key Employee A.G. "Bud" Branscomb compensation was listed at $39,083.

Records on file with the Federal Communications Commission also reveal that 501(c)(3) tax exempt Appalachian Educational Communication Corporation owns a 49% ownership of Information Communications Corporation. You might also notice the listing of the Appalachian Radio Group stations at Hill's Bio web page that the station call letters for "The Mighty 1090" are not listed --- WHGG also happens to be an acronym for "Heralding God's Graces" (in a manner similar to the WHCB "Heralding Christ's Blessings") as used by the Hill's "The Mighty 1090" before Matthew's "Motown, Soul, and Rock n' Roll" reformatting of the WHGG 1090 AM radio station.

Biography
Matthew and his wife Amanda reside in Jonesborough. Matthew is a 7th generation East Tennessean. He has an Associate Degree from Northeast State Community College and a Bachelor Degree in Broadcasting from East Tennessee State University.

He [Rep. Matthew Hill] works as the Vice-President of Operations for the Appalachian Radio Group (WPWT PowerTalk 870 AM, The Mighty 1090, WABN 1230 AM) of the Information Communications Corporation. He volunteers as the host of "The Kid's Show" for all the "Bible Buddies" on WHCB 91.5 FM and for 7 years was the host of "Good Morning Tri-Cities" on WPWT PowerTalk 870AM.

[...]

Representative Hill is a lifelong conservative Republican who previously served as the Chairman of the Tennessee Republican Assembly after serving as Vice-Chairman of the Northeast Tennessee Republican Assembly. He has received the Tennessee Conservative Union's "Tax Ax Award" for his steadfast stand against a state income tax.

Station ownership records for WABN, WHGG, and WPWT on file with the Federal Communications Commission clearly show that ownership or these stations were transferred from the non-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt Appalachian Educational Communication Corporation and to Dr. Kenneth C. Hill's for-profit Information Communications Corporation. However, the Internal Revenue Code requires that "assets of an [501(c)(3)] exempt organization must be permanently dedicated to an exempt purpose".
