"Conservative" Rep. Matthew Hill:
Hill has the "Con" Down Pat

Check out the Cameo Theater web site (Community Events > Cameo Theater) --- this is not not the first instance of the self-described "conservative" Hill tribe applying for a state/federal arts grant for the AECC Cameo Theater:

The Cameo Theatre, Bristol, presents

“Mountain Music – Then & Now”

on Thursday, May 4, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

This special performance is suitable for all elementary-age homeschoolers. Reservations are being accepted at this time on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservation Form is required. (Call Cheryl at 423-878-6279 to receive a Reservation Form or you may e-mail her at cherylsenter@yahoo.com.)

Come meet CANJOE JOHN and listen as he brings Mountain Music to life!

John VanArsdall, otherwise known as “CanJoe John,” founded The CanJoe Company in 1994 and began the production, manufacture, wholesale, and retail of unique one-stringed musical instruments called canjoes. These instruments were originally created by Herschel Brown, a gentleman John met at a jam session. John was thoroughly convinced of their commercial value, and so the story of The CanJoe Company begins here.

Since the inception of his business, John has made and sold thousands of canjoes to fans around the world. In order to promote his canjoe creations, as well as his own musical talents, he became the first in music history to have produced a commercial recording of the canjoe as the lead instrument.

His first CD release, “One Story, One Can, One Man, and One Band...” has been frequently played on radios around the world. In addition, he has produced a second CD entitled “An Uncanny Christmas,” and has released a DVD video from the single tract, “Wayfaring Stranger,” which has received airplay on select cable networks across America. CanJoe John is a man of unique musical talents and is able to captivate his audiences with solid-gold entertainment as well as educate them about the musical roots of Appalachia.

This project is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

I wonder just how much AECC is biting Tennessee taxpayers for this Cameo Theater "production"...

Sorry State o' Frank: 2006 Taj MaHill
Total Appraisal Value Spikes

State of Franklin PAC President and 501(c)(3) tax-exempt Appalachian Educational Communication Corporation (AECC - WHCB 91.5 FM) President Rev. Dr. Kenneth C. Hill and his wife (and fellow compensated AECC board member) Janet Hill --- MaHill and PaHill are the politically connected parents of Rep. Matthew Hill --- are both probably still reeling in shock after learning of the most recent 2006 total appraisial vaule increase for their "Taj MaHill" residence in Blountville.

The Rev. Daddy Dr. Hill is also owns 51% of Information Communications Corporation d.b.a WPWT 870 AM "independently" of the 49% WPWT ownership held by AECC...

According newly-updated public record information listed the State of Tennessee Real Estate Appraisal Card for their Polo Drive property, the Hills of AECC fame are on the receiving end of an additional 2006 property tax bite attributed to a $52,300 total appraisal increase well beyond the 2005 total appraisal of $317,500: the 2006 total appraisal value for the Sullivan County Taj MaHill is now hovering at $369,800!

And I was wondering why I was hearing a lot of discussion recently about Sullivan County property taxes on WPWT "Good Morning Tri-Cities"...

March 31 WPWT: Sad News, Glad News

WPWT 870 AM Sad News: Long-time and well-respected Northeast Tennessee radio news announcer Art Countiss retired today from WPWT 870 AM radio. Countiss is also the 1993 Tennessee Associated Press Broadcasters Association Broadcast Journalist of the Year and Countiss previously retired from his broadcasting career at WJCW(?) in 1998 when he announced his Republican Primary candidacy within Washington County, Tennessee 6th House District elections. Good luck, Art...

WPWT 870 AM Glad News: Coinciding with the announcement at WPWT of Art Countiss' retirement is the news that Jody Lee's "conservative" Local View afternoon talk radio show is officially toast...!

"Word Up" on the streets is that 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt Appalachian Educational Communications Corporation President Dr. Kenneth C. Hill is promoting not one, --- no, no, not just another series of mind-mumbing WPWT commercial radio spots --- but both of his sons up, up, and away within the ranks of high-earning AECC "key employees": Rep. Matthew Hill has allegedly been promoted to "Vice President" --- no more clock punching for Rep. Matthew Hill --- while his equally talented brother and WPWT "Good Morning Tri-Cities" host Timothy A. Hill has allegedly been promoted to the Rep.'s former "Operations Manager" post at the rather cool $36,125 AECC pay grade (estimated by Rep. Hill's 2003 AECC salary)...shhhhh, "loose lips sink ships."

Contact Ministries Board Member: Kinda Like His "Jonesborough Coffee Shop Owner" Deal

If an elected official is planning to puff his campaign résumé or his official state biography to demonstrate various personal experiences and accomplishments, you kind of hope that the same office holder in question would have performed these same experiences prior to running for office. Not Tennessee State Representative Matthew Hill.

As an example, Rep. Matthew Hill had started-up his now defunct "Hill of Beans" Coffee Shop in Jonesborough during late March 2004, well into his first election campaign. To his credit, candidate Hill was actually seen (and photographed) at his Hill of Beans Coffee Shop at times that you would have otherwise expected him to be back at 340 Edgemont Avenue doing his full-time 'Appalachian Radio Group' operations manager gig or performing at his other full-time "I am busy running for public office" gig...

Another example is found at the Official Tennessee House of State Representative web page for Rep. Matthew Hill --- Hill is listing his Contact Ministries (EIN 62-104486) board membership, even though the 2003 and 2004 Form 990-EZs filed with the Internal Revenue Service by Contact Ministries reveal that Rep. Hill works "0 [zero] hours per week" as a Contact Ministries board member and that Rep. Hill first started "serving" as a Contact Ministries board member during the year 2004 while campaigning for the Tennessee General Assembly 7th House District seat...

Fred Phillips made it official Thursday, announcing his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the 7th District seat in the state House of Representatives.

A former state safety commissioner and Washington County sheriff, Phillips was lauded by Jonesborough Mayor Tobie Bledsoe for his 48 years of service to Washington County.

“red knows the importance of local government,” Bledsoe said. “And we need someone in Nashville who understands us and the small towns of Northeast Tennessee ... Someone who knows the importance of roads and schools.”

Phillips may face a challenge within his party for the nomination. Democrat Nancy Fischman has picked up qualifying papers for the race, but hasn’t made a final decision on her candidacy.

Former state Safety Commissioner Fred Phillips said Wednesday he is considering entering the race for the 7th District seat in the [Tennessee] state House of Representatives and will make an official announcement later today.

Phillips has called a news conference for 1:30 p.m. [Thursday, March 30] at the Jonesborough Visitors Center.

“I’ve picked up qualifying papers for the race, but I’m still undecided,” the former Washington County sheriff said. “I still want to go over some things with my family before making a final decision.”

If Phillips does decide to run, incumbent Matthew Hill, R-Jonesborough, is currently his only opposition.

Johnson City Press L2Ed:
Local legislators entertain with bad grammer, ideas

Direct from the March 26, 2006 Forum section of the Johnson City Press:

Local legislators entertain with bad grammar, ideas

EDITOR:
The March 19 article on our trio of legislators [Reps. Matthew Hill and David Davis and Senator Rusty Crowe] was much funnier than the new microfiche-sized comics.

First comes the quote from Rep. Matthew Hill: "Myself, as well as Rusty and David, will be working on the drag racing bill." His self should immediately race onto the Tennessee House floor and sponsor "The Remedial Grammar Enhancement for Semi-Inarticulate Lawmakers Act of 2006." Desiring to make a bigger difference, his self could open the Matthew Hill Center for Lawmakers Who Don't Speak Good and Want to Do Other Stuff Good Also.

BILL HEMPHILL
Johnson City

In all fairness to Rep. Matthew Hill, I would like to point out to Mr. Hemphill (if that is indeed your last name) that I have had many opportunities to listen to young Mr. Hill --- a former radio talk show host with his "Good Morning Tri-Cites" morning talk radio show broadcasted by the WPWT 870 AM radio station jointly owned by both his father's Information Communications Corporation and the Hill-controlled 501(c)(3) tax-exempt Appalachian Educational Communications Corporation (WHCB 91.5 FM) --- and I always came away from each of these radio broadcasts with the favorable impression that Rep. Matthew Hill was a well-spoken (albeit babbling) moron...

Rep. Matthew Hill's Lame-O Radio WPWT Web Site

I finally stumbled across the "new" WPWT 870 web site (including the WPWT 870 "Good Morning Tri-Cities" web page) that the current GMTC host Timothy Hill --- brother of Tennessee RU-486 Representative and former GMTC host Matthew Hill --- had been promoting for a very, very long time as being "almost ready" and "almost here". Long story made short: there isn't any content on the WPWT web site, just some dorky canned graphics and WPWT logos...

Both Rep. Matthew Hill and Timothy Hill graduated from East Tennessee State University as mass commie majors, so you kinda' figure that, between these two conservative geniuses, they could string together enough words and phrases to form some simple sentences and slap that material into the WPWT web site.

The WPWT site is likely a freebie from AECC Board Member Frank Waldo's Intellithought...

Neoconservative Tennessee RU-486
Rep. Matthew Hill

Tennessee RU-486 Representative Matthew Hill
Welcome to the "...only blog that matters" - an abbreviated introduction pertaining to neoconservative Tennessee State Representative Matthew Hill (R-H7, Jonesborough), and his money tree that is in many ways connected to the the mega-wealthy, Forbes (2001) listed multi-millionaire and former King Pharmaceuticals, Inc. CEO John M. Gregory.

Stay tuned...

Washington County Circuit Court Clerk Candidate Mark Jones Chummy With Rep. Matthew Hill

Only worth a passing mention here because you will not learn of the connections between Wasington County Circuit Court Clerk candidate Mark Jones and Rep. Matthew Hill while listening to "Good Morning Tri-Cities" (07:00 to 09:00 AM EST) WPWT 870 AM, although candidate Jones does somewhat present this information (including a photograph of himself with Rep. Hill) at his campaign web site.

While Jones is becoming a more frequent telephone caller during the live broadcast of "Good Morning Tri-Cities" WPWT 870 AM, it is not yet discernible if Jones will start-up a Washington County coffee shop business as part of his ongoing, mid-election cycle strategy...

To his credit, Jones apparently possesses a thorough understanding of the Tennessee Code Anontated pertaining to the elective office of Circuit Court Clerk.

Jones is mostly likely a very close personal friend of Rep. Hill and the AECC tribe as he lists his membership in the Northeast Tennessee Republican Association, Contact Ministries, and his family's church attendence at the Reverend Dr. Kenneth C. Hill's Morrison City Mission Church.
