"Conservative" Rep. Matthew Hill:
Hill has the "Con" Down Pat

Check out the Cameo Theater web site (Community Events > Cameo Theater) --- this is not not the first instance of the self-described "conservative" Hill tribe applying for a state/federal arts grant for the AECC Cameo Theater:

The Cameo Theatre, Bristol, presents

“Mountain Music – Then & Now”

on Thursday, May 4, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

This special performance is suitable for all elementary-age homeschoolers. Reservations are being accepted at this time on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservation Form is required. (Call Cheryl at 423-878-6279 to receive a Reservation Form or you may e-mail her at cherylsenter@yahoo.com.)

Come meet CANJOE JOHN and listen as he brings Mountain Music to life!

John VanArsdall, otherwise known as “CanJoe John,” founded The CanJoe Company in 1994 and began the production, manufacture, wholesale, and retail of unique one-stringed musical instruments called canjoes. These instruments were originally created by Herschel Brown, a gentleman John met at a jam session. John was thoroughly convinced of their commercial value, and so the story of The CanJoe Company begins here.

Since the inception of his business, John has made and sold thousands of canjoes to fans around the world. In order to promote his canjoe creations, as well as his own musical talents, he became the first in music history to have produced a commercial recording of the canjoe as the lead instrument.

His first CD release, “One Story, One Can, One Man, and One Band...” has been frequently played on radios around the world. In addition, he has produced a second CD entitled “An Uncanny Christmas,” and has released a DVD video from the single tract, “Wayfaring Stranger,” which has received airplay on select cable networks across America. CanJoe John is a man of unique musical talents and is able to captivate his audiences with solid-gold entertainment as well as educate them about the musical roots of Appalachia.

This project is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

I wonder just how much AECC is biting Tennessee taxpayers for this Cameo Theater "production"...

The point of this post is not about the merits of the artist scheduled for peformance at the AECC Cameo Theater, rather, the intent of this blog post is focused on the "artistry" of those self-described "conservative" Hill family members all too-willing in their to sign-up for the state and federal grants dole financed by Tennessee taxpayers...there are apparently just a lot of liberal AECC art grant queens kicked back at 340 Edgemont Avenue and waiting for the next taxpayer financed gravy train.
