Primary Documents in American History

The Library of Congress is home to many of the most important documents in American history. This Web site provides links to materials digitized from the collections of the Library of Congress that supplement and enhance the study of these crucial documents.

The links at right highlight eras of American History. Each of these sections link to a list of important documents from that era. For each item on these lists there is a page with background information about the document, a list of links to digital materials concerning that document from the Library's site and elsewhere, and bibliographies both for general readers and for younger readers.

The initial release of this Web site contains documents from the years 1763 to 1877. Updates will be made on a regular basis, including the addition of documents from the 20th Century.

You pagan piece of dog crap. God condemn you to the depths of hell. Anybody that's attended church regularly knows that the Ten Commandments is an American document. Moses was an American, as was Jesus. It's people like you is the reason that America is on the way to hell. People like Matthew Hill stand up for our Godly traditions in this country and he can save us from infidels like you. I hope you burn in hell you unpatriotic ingrate. God Bless Matthew Hill and his Godly stance on the issues. He will probably control the temperature that you will burn in from heaven. God Bless Him and the Hill family. After all, they are sent to us from on high to save us and poor souls like you.

Perhaps I should have also added that the past two hundred years of archaeological science has literally failed to dig up any substantiative finds supporting the first five books of the Old Testament

Not sure what you mean about supporting those books. For years people said the Old Testament made up the Hittite civilization, but since the late 1800s much archaeological evidence has been found about Hittite or Neshili people.
